22K, 24K, and city rates
Two different questions people ask, answered properly: what's the real price difference between gold purities, and does the city you buy in actually matter.
24K vs 22K vs 18K, right now
Computed directly from purity ratios (22K is 91.6% pure, 18K is 75% pure) — this is fixed math, not an estimate, so it's always exactly right for whatever the 24K price is.
| Purity | Composition | ₹ per gram | ₹ per 10 grams |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 Karat | 99.9% pure — bars, coins, investment-grade | ₹15330 | ₹153299 |
| 22 Karat | 91.6% pure — standard hallmark jewellery gold | ₹14042 | ₹140422 |
| 18 Karat | 75% pure — lighter, more durable jewellery | ₹11497 | ₹114974 |

Does the city matter?
Short answer: barely. Gold itself is one nationally-traded commodity and GST is uniform at 3% everywhere — so the base rate should be nearly identical across India. Here's a real snapshot to show it:
| City | 24K, ₹/gram | vs. lowest |
|---|---|---|
| Chennai | ₹14,717 | Same |
| Mumbai | ₹14,717 | Same |
| Bangalore | ₹14,717 | Same |
| Kolkata | ₹14,717 | Same |
| Hyderabad | ₹14,717 | Same |
| Pune | ₹14,717 | Same |
| Delhi | ₹14,732 | +₹15 |
| Ahmedabad | ₹14,722 | +₹5 |
| Vadodara | ₹14,722 | +₹5 |
Illustrative snapshot from 20 Oct 2026 (GoodReturns (goodreturns.in/gold-rates)) — a one-time point-in-time capture, not a live feed. The pattern holds generally: most cities match exactly; Delhi and parts of Gujarat run marginally higher due to older local levies, typically under 0.1%.
The real price differences you'll actually pay come from making charges, which vary a lot by jeweller — not by city base rate. That's the number worth negotiating, not chasing a "cheaper city."
